Julia's Rare Antique Toy, Doll, Advertising & Coin-Op Division has distinguished itself over many years. It is one of the oldest such divisions in the country. In recent years the division has developed a focus on the higher quality and more valuable items. Our average sale value per lot is usually one of the highest in the industry. Our well-established reputation for honest and fair representation has won us the confidence of some of the most advanced collectors in the world. The department head is Andrew Truman. Originally born and raised in Hallowell, Maine, he later graduated in 1995 from the University of Oregon with a B.A. in English. He taught several years at a private school in Eugene, Oregon, then returned to Maine in 1999 and joined the Julia auction firm. Andrew has distinguished himself over the years as being extremely competent, very energetic, and hard working. Customers find his very polite, professional and personable approach to be exceedingly comfortable to work with.
Andrew's division is co-supported by Julie Killam (who also supports the Rare Lamp & Glass Division). Julie has been with Julia's for over ten years and has mastered almost every position within the company. In fact, at one time during a hiatus between department heads, Julie had actually run the Rare Lamp & Glass Division and put together one of its auctions. In addition to her tremendous accomplishments as an administrative assistant is her warm and tremendously outgoing personality. In recent years the division has become one of the leaders in the industry. The division specializes in rare toys, fine French dolls, choice antique advertising, mechanical banks, coin operated gambling and arcade machines as well as rare trains and a vast array of other highly interesting items. As with Julia's other divisions, there is a tremendous depth of expertise and it is one of the reasons for their great success over the years. The consultant base consists of a number of renowned experts in many fields. Jay Lowe of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, renowned doll & toy expert serves as chief consultant and cataloger together with other well known figures such as Mike Caffarella, Rick Saxman, Dorothy McGonagle, Phelps Fullerton (advertising), Ed Openshaw (music machines), as well as a host of other specialty consultants.
This division has handled numerous renowned collections. In 2005 we sold the extraordinary cast iron toy collection of Bob & Jackie Stewart. There were a great number of outstanding and important items in this sale. In fact, approximately 35 world records were established in this one auction alone.
